Interested and eligible candidates can apply online for IAF Meteorology Branch Course which will commence in January/2018. Serving Airmen: Interested Serving Airmen can apply online at par with other candidates. In addition, Airmen candidates should apply as per the service format as given in AFO 11/ 2015 through service channel. Other government employees also need to apply online after obtaining necessary permission from their concerned departments and they are to produce NOC at the time of AFSB testing.
Branch of Commission: Meteorology Branch
Course Commencement Period: January, 2018
Courses:
Following courses are being offered by the Indian Air Force.
Permanent Commission: The candidates selected for Permanent Commission will serve in Indian Air Force till the age of Superannuation.
Short Service Commission: The candidates selected for Short Service Commission will serve in Indian Air Force for an initial period of 10 years. Additional 4 years of extension may be allowed to the Officers on SSC provided there are vacancies, requirements, merit, suitability and willingness of the candidates.
Educational qualification
The defence job aspirants applying for IAF Meteorology officer posts should possess a postgraduate degree in Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Geography/ Computer Applications/ Environmental Sciences/ Applied Physics/ Oceanography/ Meteorology/ Agricultural Meteorology/ Ecology & Environment/ Geo-Physics/ Environmental Biology, with at least 50 per cent aggregate marks.
Age limit
The Applicants applying for IAF Commission officer post in Meteorology branch should age between 20 and 25 years.
Physical Standards
Pay Scale
All officers of Indian Air Force Meteorology branch will get Pay Band (PB - 3) in the range of Rs 15, 600 to Rs 39, 100 with grade pay plus other allowances as Grade Pay, Military Service Pay, Dearness Allowance, Kit Maintenance Allowance, and Transport Allowance.
Training
Training is scheduled to commence in the first week of January 2018. Duration of training for Ground Duty (Non-technical) Branch is 52 weeks at Air Force Academy.
Short-listed candidates will be called for testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar, Varanasi or Kancharapara. The testing would consist of two stages as given below.
Stage-I
Stage I will have one Intelligence test and Picture Perception & Description Test (PPDT). Results of Stage I testing will be announced on the same day and candidates shortlisted will stay back for Stage II testing at the AFSB.
Stage-II
In Stage-II Testing, Psychological Test, Group Tests and Interview will be held and recommended candidates names will be announced on the final day by the Indian Air Force officials.
Medical Examination:
Final medical exam of selected candidates will be conducted at AFCME, New Delhi or IAM, Bengaluru based on the recommendations at AFSB. Candidates recommended by the AFSBs and declared medically fit will be detailed for training in the order of all India Merit list depending on the number of vacancies available. Grant of PC / SSC would be based on number of vacancies, performance in the selection process and the choice given by the candidate.
